Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Server to join our dynamic team in a fast-paced dining environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for providing exceptional customer service and a strong understanding of food and beverage offerings and able to work week days & weekends, lunch & dinner. As a Server, you will be responsible for creating a memorable dining experience for our guests through attentive service, effective communication, and a thorough knowledge of our menu.

About The Barrington Boar

The Barrington Boar is a country inn and restaurant with rooms, offering Modern British cooking and refined comfort food in the heart of the South Somerset countryside. Situated in the picturesque village of Barrington, nestled between Langport and Ilminster, and close to Taunton and Yeovil.

The menu focuses on refined comfort food using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, cooked with skill and passion. The pub focuses its drinks menu on South West produce, with a selection of local ales and ciders on tap, craft beers, local gins and English sparkling wines.

Duties

  • Greet and seat guests in a friendly and welcoming manner.

  • Take food and drink orders accurately using the EPOS Now systems.

  • Provide detailed menu descriptions and make recommendations to enhance the dining experience, including upselling specials.

  • Ensure timely delivery of food and beverages to tables while maintaining high standards of presentation.

  • Monitor guest satisfaction throughout their meal, addressing any concerns promptly and professionally.

  • Process payments accurately through cash handling and cashiering duties.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dining area, including bussing tables and ensuring sanitation standards are met.

  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure smooth service flow and timely food preparation.

  • Assist with training new staff members in service protocols and restaurant policies as needed.

Experience

  • Previous experience in food service or restaurant roles is preferred, particularly in fine dining or high-volume establishments.

  • Culinary experience or knowledge of food safety practices is highly desirable.

  • Strong time management skills with the ability to multitask effectively in a busy environment.

  • Excellent customer service skills with a focus on guest relations and satisfaction.

  • Basic math skills for processing transactions accurately.

Lead Artisan Baker

The Barrington Bakery is a new artisan bakery set within the beautiful market garden of The Barrington Boar’s latest development in the charming village of Barrington, Somerset.

We are dedicated to producing exceptional baked goods using traditional methods, long fermentation, and high-quality, locally sourced ingredients. Our range includes naturally leavened sourdough breads, laminated viennoiserie, refined pâtisserie, and seasonal products inspired by our surroundings. The Barrington bakery is part of the Barrington Boar group, so you can expect support from the chefs with bakery production.

This is a rare opportunity to help shape a new bakery with huge ambition, developing and leading a young, ambitious team of bakers.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and inspiring Head Artisan Baker to lead both production and people within the bakery.

This is a hands-on leadership role where your ability to train, mentor, and nurture a developing team is just as important as your technical baking skills and production. You will set the tone, standards, and culture of the bakery—building a team that grows in confidence, consistency, and craftsmanship under your guidance.

Key Responsibilities

  • This is a hands on roll with production as well as leading daily bakery operations with a focus on consistency, quality, and team development

  • Train, mentor, and inspire a young, ambitious team, creating a structured and supportive learning environment

  • Instil strong fundamentals in sourdough, fermentation, and laminated dough techniques

  • Set clear standards and ensure they are understood and maintained across the team

  • Identify strengths and areas for development within the team, actively supporting progression

  • Produce a range of sourdough breads, viennoiserie, and pâtisserie to a high standard

  • Oversee production planning and workflow, ensuring the team works efficiently and confidently

  • Develop recipes and seasonal products using ingredients from the market garden and local suppliers

  • Maintain excellent food safety, cleanliness, and organisation standards

  • Manage stock, ordering, and supplier relationships

About You

  • Proven experience in leading a team within an artisan bakery

  • A natural mentor who enjoys teaching, coaching, and developing others

  • Patient, consistent, and able to bring out the best in less experienced team members

  • Strong technical skills in sourdough, fermentation, and laminated doughs

  • Experience in viennoiserie and pâtisserie (entremets, gateaux, etc.)

  • Highly organised with strong communication and leadership skills

  • Passionate about seasonal ingredients and traditional methods

  • Calm and solutions-focused in a fast-paced environment

  • Food hygiene certification (or willingness to obtain)

Experience with ice cream or frozen desserts is advantageous but not essential.

The Barrington Boar are looking to recruit chefs of all levels (including apprentice) to expand our growing brigade. Having recently been included in the Michelin guide and top50 gastro pubs in the country, amongst other accolades and recent media praise. The kitchen are looking for passionate foodies to join the team.

As Chef at the Barrington Boar, you would be working with our fantastic kitchen team, under the experienced leadership of our chef-proprietor Alasdair Clifford who has a wealth of Michelin experience. We believe that great food, drinks & service can only be delivered by happy, fulfilled people and so work hard to make The Barrington Boar a great place to work. The whole menu is cooked from scratch from start to finish using local fine products from artisan suppliers, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn and develop as a chef.

The company has recently built further dining space and acquired land and property adjacent to the pub with plans to build a market garden to serve the restaurant as well as a bakery, giving the right candidate excellent career opportunities and progression within the business

What the job involves:

  • You will be working straight shifts over the course of a 42 hour week, Wed-Sun.

  • You will be responsible for preparing, cooking and presenting high quality dishes.

  • You will be expected to assist the Head Chef and Sous Chef in creating menu items, recipes and developing dishes.

  • You will be expected to assist with the management of health and safety.

  • You will be expected to assist with the management of food hygiene practices.

  • You will be contributing to ordering and stock management.

  • You will be expected to bring enthusiasm and creativity to help the restaurant in their drive for awards.

  • Other ad hoc duties as required.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a person who is innovative and creative with what they do and a passionate foodie. Experienced chef or entry level, the candidate must be someone who can bring enthusiasm and pride to their work ensuring only the best leaves the kitchen. We are looking for someone who is reliable, a hard worker and is able to contribute to menu creation and ordering.

As well as this the following are required;

  • Right to work in UK - do not apply if you do not have this.

  • 1-2 years’ experience in restaurants of a similar standard.

  • A real passion for food and cooking

  • A drive to progress in the hospitality industry

  • Full clean drivers license
